5F Change Framework

Change takes time. Hard change needs structure to best use the time. Use a guide to help you. You need guidance to achieve change.

Welcome the 5F framework. The 5F framework consists of 5 Fs that collectively will support you through a change. Although they are in a suggested order you can take them in an order that best suits you.

The suggestion is to start with Feeling (subject: psychology, neurobiology) where you perceive the world and then interpret it. Next is Future (philosophy) where you picture a current (no change) and potential (active change). This picture will shape your change as you go. After Future is Fuel (physiology) where you will decide how to best fuel yourself for success. Next is Fight – what you are willing to sacrifice, struggle against, face in order to achieve the change. Surrounding all of this is Friendship. To take on change without people who care for you or you care about is hard, not impossible but hard. Bring people with you to help and support your journey.

FEEL

Organise your thought and aims to define what change you want. Be ambitious. Define the boundaries and get ready to begin. Baseline key metrics as these are your starting point for change.

FUTURE

First stage of performance change is to stop doing things that are low value or distractions. Stopping is the hardest stage and there will be times of failure but keep going and you will start to see improvements.

FUEL

With stopping activities dwindling new activities can start and then replace them. This will take longer than wanted and failure at this stage is likely. But better performance will start to be noticed.

FIGHT

The force to return to the old performance is strong with many of the stop activities starting to reoccur. At this stage new performance needs to be part of the new identity to secure the change.

FRIENDSHIP

Bring your friends with you. It’s more fun.
